Who has time to cook everyday!? If that thought has ever crossed your mind, you’ve come to the right place.
Hi there, I’m Nassie, a Canadian home cook living in Paris, France. The food-eating team I get to practise on is my French husband and two small kids, all of whom have very big appetites and opinions.
And that is not just about food, although that is very high on their list.
As a busy professional working full-time (as a writer, artist, and trained CPA), I found that it wasn’t always easy to put together a healthy delicious meal, quickly and efficiently.
I was looking for easy dinner ideas that I could launch in the oven, instant pot, air fryer, or rice cooker, while at the same time dealing with the usual homework, reading, and night-time baths extravaganza.
It has taken quite a bit of time to come up with my list of go-to meals that I can multi-task around, so I began writing them down so that I could keep repeating them and testing out variations with different ingredients.
Initially I was just sharing with friends and family, and then I started to add them to my other blog, snippetsofparis.com, because a lot of my recipes are French-influenced. (Since I’ve been living in France for over 10 years and this is where I’ve mostly learnt to cook.)
But who doesn’t enjoy a good butter chicken once in a while, and perhaps tweak it with a dash of spinach to get those healthy nutrients in!? Creativity is the spice of life, after all.
So I decided to start a separate website where I could write all the good stuff down, and go ahead and take a few liberties đ We do need to eat our fruits and veggies after all.
What you’ll find in my recipes
Globally inspired dishes, with a focus on meals that can be served to the whole family. This means dishes that are:
- herbs, spices and ingredients easily available
- not too spicy so that it is kid-friendly
- recipes with a good handful of veggies
- limited oil or butter
- quick dishes for a weeknight dinner or weekend lunch.
Type of food I like to cook
Growing up in Canada, I’m used to a very multi-cultural palate. I enjoy everything from Italian to Indian, and Mexican to Asian.
I did however learn most of my cooking in France (necessity leads to skills!) so I do tend to use a lot of herbs, garlic, crème fraiche and olive oil. As much as I enjoy spicy food, I can’t get my little Frenchies to eat it (I’m working on them!), so most of my dishes are family-friendly.
We eat lots of chicken and meats for protein, with a good dose of seafood especially when we are visiting family in the South of France.
And I usually don’t hesitate to add a dose of veggies into any dish, whether the traditional recipe calls for it or not! So let’s get cooking, shall we? Bon appĂŠtit!
