Air fryer parmesan calamari (squid)
Perfect as an appetizer or a main, this simple and healthy parmesan calamari (ringed squid) made in the air fryer in 30 minutes or less.
Ingredients
![]() | 1 lb (450 g) of Squid – any type of squid and calamari will do such as, the wings, hood and tentacles. I’m using rings |
![]() | 1/2 cup of fresh grated parmesan cheese. |
![]() | 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil with a high smoking point like avocado, sunflower, or peanut oil. |

![]() | 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour |
![]() | 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs – any type of breadcrumbs, such as panko, fresh toasted, etc. |
Spices and flavoring ingredients:

How to make parmesan calamari in the air fryer
- Pat dry the calamari thoroughly with paper towels.
- Prepare a breading station with three separate bowls.
- Add flour to the first bowl.
- Whisk the egg with salt and pepper in the second bowl.
- Combine breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, and any optional spices in the third bowl.
- Coat each piece of calamari in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally cover with the breadcrumb-parmesan mixture.
- Spray the air fryer basket lightly with oil and preheat to 400°F (200°C).
- Arrange the calamari in a single layer in the basket.
- Cook for 4-6 minutes.
- Check for crispiness and cook a few extra minutes if needed.
- Garnish with a slice of lemon and serve hot.
